I got into woodworking a few years ago and one of the first things I made was an apple box; an equipment mainstay in film and photography production. It's unassuming and simple (it's literally just a box), but a true swiss army knife. Our box gets used by my wife on photo shoots; by our toddler as storage for whatever tiny object she can drop into it; and by me as inspiration for silly display fonts.
